1. Basic Definition

Oil‑based adhesive is a general‑purpose pressure‑sensitive adhesive widely used in self‑adhesive label industry. It is formulated with oil‑soluble polymer raw materials, presenting stable bonding performance under normal temperature. Removable oil‑based adhesive is a special branch of oil‑based adhesive system. It adopts adjusted polymer formula to achieve low‑tack peeling feature while keeping the oil‑based adhesive’s core advantages of weather resistance. Both belong to oil‑borne PSA series, yet they differ greatly in formula design for practical application scenarios.

2. Core Formula & Cohesion Performance

Regular oil‑based adhesive focuses on high bonding strength. Its molecular structure is designed to form firm anchoring force on substrate surfaces. Once pasted, it produces strong adhesion and will not fall off spontaneously. Removable oil‑based adhesive modifies the proportion of rubber or acrylic polymer. It balances initial tack and cohesive force, avoiding excessive penetration into material surface. The internal cohesion is improved so that adhesive layer will not break and leave residue when peeled off.

Regular oil‑based adhesive pursues ultimate adhesion; removable oil‑based adhesive strikes balance between adhesion and clean removability.

3. Peeling Performance & Residue Situation

This is their most obvious distinction. For common oil‑based adhesive labels, after long‑time sticking on plastic, paper or metal surfaces, high adhesion makes labels hard to strip. Peeling often leaves glue residue, tears surface paint or damages base material. It fits permanent labeling demands.

Removable oil‑based adhesive can be peeled off integrally within valid service period. Under proper operating temperature, almost no glue residue stays on adhered objects. It will not scratch or destroy the surface. However, over‑aging, high temperature or heavy pressure may still cause partial residue, which is its usage limitation.

4. Application Scenarios

Conventional oil‑based adhesive serves permanent labels, such as product specification stickers, logistics outer‑box labels, asset fixed marks and industrial identification tags. It requires long‑term firm attachment and no intentional removal.

Removable oil‑based adhesive targets temporary labeling needs: price tags for retail goods, seasonal promotional stickers, reusable product marks, test labels and household removable decals. Labels need to be taken off cleanly without harming goods.

5. Cost & Environmental Adaptability

Ordinary oil‑based adhesive has mature production process with relatively lower cost, and shows outstanding resistance to humidity and temperature change. Removable oil‑based adhesive needs precise formula adjustment and strict production control, bringing higher comprehensive cost. Its temperature tolerance range is narrower. Extreme high or low temperature will weaken its removable effect.
