Semi gloss paper, commonly known as coated paper, is a widely used printing paper. It is made by coating a layer of white mineral paint on base paper and calendering for a smooth surface. It falls into two main types: double-coated paper with glossy surfaces on both sides and single-coated paper with one coated side.
Boasting high whiteness and excellent ink absorption, it reproduces colorful images vividly. It is ideal for brochures, posters, magazines and product flyers. However, its smooth coating makes it hard to write on with pens. Matte art paper is a non-gloss variant of coated paper for higher-end printing.
